Look before the opening credits. A big curtain opens up and behind it, it says "June 1938". Then it shows a copy of "Action Comics". Some kid opens it and starts reading about Metropolis in the 1930's. After he's done reading, it cuts to live action and you see the Daily Planet before moving up into space and the credits roll. THEN, it comes to Krypton shortly before its destruction (to be more precise, General Zod, Non and Ursa are being put into the Phantom Zone).
