"1941" Gag in Raiders

I just finished watching the "1941" DVD. On it there is a "making of" documentary and from this I learned that there was supposed to be a scene on the submarine (and they showed some outtakes) where a German officer takes out what looks like some kind of strangulation device while interrogating a prisoner.... but it turns out to be a coat hanger. Sound familiar? For some reason, it didn't come off as funny enough in "1941" so Spielberg cut the scene but he liked the gag and was determined to keep trying it in his movies until it worked. He used it in Raiders!
