: A large scale theatrical release costs a ton of cash, and unless the films are given a special edition treatment, then Paramount / Lucasfilm will not risk it. I have worked on getting the special editions of Superman I and II released for close to three years, and belive me it takes a lot of hard work to convince a studio to do this. Despite the non theatrical and DVD of the trilogy, we should be happy.
