When used as a gas mask bag, the bag is placed on your chest and the string in the pocket on the side of the bag is pulled around your back and secured by twisting it around the round thing like one of those funny envelopes. I hope this is not too confusing,as the bag is much easier to use than explain. Regards, Forrestall
