An earlier post was discussing how tall Harrison Ford really is? As you know, many Hollywood leading men have traditinally been very short. Tom Cruise is a good example.
But how tall is Harrison Ford? Well, a close examination of Raiders provides startling proof that Harrison Ford is shorter than you might think.
In the scene where the old man is translating the headpiece, he states that the staff should be 6 kadams high. Sallah says that translates into 72 inches, or 6 feet, ergo 1 kadam= 1 foot. For you in metric, 3 kadam= approx 1 meter.
"Then, take back 1 kadam to honor the Hebrew God..."
Indy: "Belloq's staff is too long..."

So, the Staff of Ra should be 5 feet tall, or 84 centimeters.
Now, when Indy is walking through the German camp, the Staff is taller than him by at least the distance between his shoulders and the top of his head, an average distance of 10 to 12 inches. Since the staff is only 5 kadam high, then that distance we can safely assume is the lower of those two numbers.
The answer then is, Harrison Ford (or at least Indiana Jones) is about 4 feet four inches tall or about 70 centimeters.
Now, I think that what really happened is that Indiana Jones is supposed to be four feet tall, and they used oversized props, just like in Land of the Giants, to give the illusion that he is shorter than he is. But I could be wrong. Maybe Harrison Ford really is that short. Maybe they should tap him to play Bilbo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings movie.
Just an observation.
