: There's been lots of talk on this site in the past about whether or not the books can be considered part of the Indiana Jones legend or if only the movies count. When you foster in the comic books, computer games, "Young Indy," and now our dreamed-about animated series, you're talking about a lot of venues for this character.
: Are they all tied together with the same restrictions and guidelines?
: The only person who can actually answer this question would be George Lucas. If we look at "Star Wars" as our example I think we could say that each incarnation exists on its own and can't really be considered as part of a whole. Lucas has said that he doesn't consider the "Star Wars" novels as part of the actual story so I don't think it's too farfetched to think he feels the same way about the Indy novels.

: Does anyone know what guidelines the novelists are given before they write an Indy novel? Can Rob MacGregor or Max McCoy kill off a character like Sallah with impunity? If they do, does Lucas feel obligated to consider that character dead as far as the movies go? Would Lucas feel free to use a character from one of the novels in a future movie?
: If George Lucas doesn't feel that the different avenues intersect than can we the fans be blamed if we disregard the novels or the comics and only follow the movies as the true adventures of Indiana Jones?

: What do you think???

Like you said... the only person who can truly answer that question is George Lucas! :)
