I agree. There is a huge difference between the versions. Without widescreen, you're only seeing half the movie! This is especially true with Spielberg's films, because he always uses all of the frame in his compositions. (Some directors don't and shoot mainly in the TV-safe area, or shoot in Super-35).

I think Spielberg was one of the directors behind a legal effort several years ago to mandate that videos were presented in their original version- widescreen- instead it ended up that they compromised and settled for having the disclaimer "this movie has been formatted to fit your screen."
