atlantis game problems

please help me, somebody.
i haven't been able to play "fate of atlantis" for months on my new computer. it has windows 98, and i know that not all dos games will run on this platform, but there's gotta be a way. every time i start up the game, either the screen goes black, and i have to restart my computer, or this message shows up: "This program has just performed an illegal operation and will be terminated. Quit all programs and restart computer". EVERY TIME, ONE OF THESE 2 THINGS HAPPEN. I tried Lucasarts's 'tech support', but it was a joke.
can anyone help?
