: : I really do appreciate all the help everyone has provided as to the "correct" dimensions for the Raiders fedora. Thanks for the patience, as I'm sure many of you can appreciate that once I take a knife to the felt, I'm committed!

: : Anyway, sorry to everyone else for clogging up the forum with the minutia of brim sizes! When your focus is on the trees, it’s easy to forget about the forest.

: : I promise no more posts on the fedora until I have the finished product in hand. Then a full review is, I think, in order. Back to the fun stuff!

: : Cheers!

: ..being around engineers day in and day out, these minute details discussions never bothered me. As a matter of fact they tend to wring out additional information that I had forgotten. The measurements you stated of the 2 3/4" front, 2 1/2 back and sides were the measurements I ALSO read many many years ago as being the brim measurements on the very first hand cut brim for the very first Raiders fedora. I remember thinking at the time that duplicating that brim was going to be a nightmare for someone if duplication was desired. When the more standarized 2 3/4" front/back and 2 1/2" sides was adopted, I breathed a sigh of relief, as this could be patterned and done by a shop much more easily. That original measurement info was released so far back, I can't even remember where I read it. I sure appreciate you stating this, as that means TWO of us read it somewhere. That's why these detailed discussions, I think, are of great help. Regards. Michaelson

I really enjoy talking shop when it comes to Indy's fedora. I am always looking for new bits of information, sorta like sifting through the soil for artifacts. I am intrigued by this idea of the brim being those dimensions. I wonder if this was common back in the 30's? This question is probaly rhetorical as an answer would be hard to come by. I will stay tuned for the results of your fedora project. Good luck, Steve
