If you don't want to tread the very long and frustrating path of submitting it to regular punlishers, there are a number of ways you can publish it yourself.

First, and this is very important, no matter what path you take, write the Library of Congress and ask for a copy of Form TX. For $20 you can secure a legal copyright and not have to worry about someone else stealing your work.

My book was done as a trade paperback, it's 144 pages, and I got 500 copies made. They cost me about $4 each, which is average.
However, since then some better options have popped up. I'd definitely suggest you check a company called Xlibris. Their URL is:

I had them send me their promo pack, and it's great! The sample book they sent me was a reprint of Frankenstein in hardcover. It's a very professional looking book... you'd never guess how it was made (look at the site).

Another option is to find one of a few publishers who specialize in first books. One I've been looking at is Gardenia Press. Their URL is:
http://www.gardeniapress.com/guidelines.htm

Of course, there are lots of others, but this info should give you an idea of how to get started.
Feel free to e-mail me if you have any other questions.
