: : Akubra hats use rabbit fur felt. I thought the best looking and most durable fur felt was beaver. Akubra owners and other hat experts: does this matter? What kind of quality difference?

: : Also, do any Akubra "Indy" hats have dark brown felt (as in Raiders?)

I would just like to add a few comments. First, when I spoke to Richard Swales at Herbert Johnson several years ago he told me that the HJ's were made of Rabbit fur since beaver was considered an endangered species in Britain.
Also, about 2 years ago I ordered a Bushman from David Morgan and cut it down to Indy specs (2 7/8 in front and 23/4 on the sides per Mr. Swales measurements quoted to me). The hat looks VERY authentic in style but the color is off--it is more of a beige color. Hope this helps.

: Looks like we are thinking along the same lines. (See my post above) I doubt very seriously if an untrained eye could see the difference between beaver and rabbit. Performance wise there is probaly little difference. And as the old saying goes....you get what you pay for. Personally I don't care if this hat is made of rabbit, as long as it has the right look. At around $80.00 it is in my book a bargain. The Australians have been making this brand of hat for many, many years. I really do trust their quality. Steve
