Spielberg is a big fan of these kind of 'reveal' shots where the characters see something first and the the camera cranes up to see the view. He also likes dropping the odd shooting star in as I'm sure everybody knows.

Basically it's like a directorial trademark. They're pretty cool. There is a fantastic 'reveal' shot in Saving Private Ryan where it pans to the beach scene - spectacular!

I seem to recall a good book about Spielberg where the author goes into all this stuff.
