..as I grew up in a very old house that all of the fire places were still intact, but the flues had been sealed shut because of newer central heating, be that either natural gas or steam. To keep the "flavor" of having a real hearth, though, folks still put fake logs and lighting in the place of the real thing for atmosphere. It was more common than you think in a lot of areas of the country. Regards. Michaelson
