: : I was watching Raiders last night and was wondering something: How exactly did Indy know to shut their eyes? Was it from an edited scene?

: : HF605

: Well...I hate to be a smart-ass but it's because he's the hero and closing their eyes is simply a plot device to ensure they don't die. I know how simple that sounds, but I don't think these movies were meant as high-art that is to be examined and picked apart the way we do here. There's a great deal of discussion about the "bloopers" and scenes that don't make sense, like the submarine scene. I think we need to suspend our disbelief for a bit. These sort of things can't happen in the "real" world, and that's why the movies are so cool.
: Or I could've said that man was not meant to behold the glory of god's power/wrath and only the riteous would recognize the threat and thus be saved :) ...but I didn't say that!
: Cheers,
: Sean

I defer to the book. Right after Imam told Indy and Sallah to
"give back one kadam to honor the Hebrew God whose Ark this is",
he also said "those who would open the Ark and release its contents
will die if they look upon it". Then Indy tosses the date into
the air. I guess you could download the screenplay and see if its
there. Or suspend belief and not worry about it. But that's why
this is a "forum", isn't it. I've been an Indiana Jones fan since
1981. I had the "X Marks the Spot" in my "Favorites" file but
hadn't looked in a year or so. I checked again recently and saw
the new information and the new links to "Indy Gear". and the
others. What a surprise! Cheers indeed! A toast and a tip of my
fedora to all you who have put together these great Indy fan sites.
