Anyway, yes, the costume Belloq wore is the priestly garment decribed in the Bible to be worn by the High Priest when doing anything with the Ark.
The twelve stones on the breastplate stand for the Twelve Tribes and so-on.
With the possiblity that the Ark may be recovered, the Orthodox Jews in Israel have been trying to re-construct the outfit (there are some very piddly details in its makeup) over the last few years.
