No.
If you have a VCR that does a decent frame-by-frame, you see it go up and over the lip.
Things fly fast in films all the time, and it's "visible." And the optical illusion of wheels going backwards happens in real life, not just on film.
I prefer to think that Belloq, being French, will eat anything.
