transporting whip in Last Crusade

regarding the scene in which the battle on the tank occurs, notice
that after our hero saves his father from the tank's rolling tread by
snapping his whip around Henry's ankle, he then calls for Sallah to
"Get DAD!" Then, off Henry goes to safety on Sallah's horse along with Indy's whip.

QUESTION: How is it that Indy's whip is then attatched to his belt as he is climbing over the edge of the cliff to surprise his mourners from behind? The whip was on Henry's ankle when we last saw it!
