That may have been, but on one of my Star Wars LD sets(I'm not sure which, I have three) there is a piece of an interview with Harrison Ford. In it, he said he told George Lucas that he thought Han Solo should die. To give the film some, in Harrison's words,"emotional resonace". George said no, end of story.
