: The game looks great, but sadly, I probably won't ever get to play it.

: I was wondering about the 3D acceleration requirement. Are there a lot of people with this type of addon? I thought the standard was for people with 3D cards to have improved visuals, but the 3D-less masses would still be able to play the game. Doesn't this seem like a pretty steep requirement?

: Just curious,

Not really, nowadays.

Most Quake II players would agree that although a 3D card isn't needed, it's pretty much essential to really enjoy the game. A 3D card is really an essential purchase for gamesplayers (all the companies have gone 3D, look at LucasArts releases. Grim Fandango, Rogue Squadron, Indy. And Sierra have done the same with Kings Quest 8, Gabriel Knight 3 etc.) And 3D cards are pretty cheap at the moment.

I, personally, prefer the fact that they are telling us now we need the card now, instead of claiming it won't and then (when it's released) we find out that it's almost unplayable.

Phil.
