I really think it will be impossible to top Raiders

I agree with what you say about Temple of Doom. However, I don't think it will be possible to top Raiders. Raiders was first and because of that it had a more serious tone to it that I don't think can be repeated, in large part becuase the audience already knows what to expect from an Indiana Jones film. The best they can probably do is to equal Last Crusade with the same kind of self-aware humor, but hopefully have an ending that doesn't go down the tubes in the last ten minutes, logically speaking. (And doesn't have that cheesy model tank after it goes over the cliff...)
