: If you haven't gone upstairs yet and retrieved the piece of the infernal machine, do that first. Once downstairs again, use the IM piece on him. I hit him 3 times and he exploded. Then use it on the chunk of ice to get out. I tried it on a whim and it worked! Happy ice monster hunting.
