Indy's necklace

I recently finished watching my collection of Young Indy videos. In the last one, Hollywood Folies indy still has that necklace at the end. Since Indy doesn't have this necklace in the movies, I thought Lucas would have him lose it somehow. It's obviosly lucky because it saved his life in Oganga. Any theories to what happened to it.
