Didn't catch that ep. But remember, Hercules and Xena are by Sam Raimi's people and are made distinctly "tongue in cheek" like the Evil Dead series... It wouldn't surprise me if this was some kind of homage/parody...

: I hate 2 admit it but I was watching Hercules, anyway, at one point Hercules and Auto-something are in a temple. Herc attempts to steal something from this little platform. He picks up a small bag of sand, checks its weight and gets ready for the swap. In the background the other guy watches anxiously, rubbing his fingers, switches back to Herc, who makes the switch carefully. With a big sigh, it all goes well, until suddenly... Yeah, you guessed it...
