If I recall correctly, the Knight says that the boundary for the
Grail, and its power, is the seal. Thus is the price for imortality.
The three brothers must have spent all of those years building the traps, before the two returned, then died (not immortal) of extreme
old age. So the original knight is probably still alive.

Oh yeah, I like the bookends myself.
