Here's the way I have it figured:

There's no special connection between the powers of the grail and the seal. Moving past the grail doesn't "turn off" the grail. It maintains it's healing, life-giving properties forever. However, you must continually drink from the grail for it to effectively give you immortality. The seal is merely a trigger mechanism. Moving the grail beyond the great seal causes the whole place to come down around your ears. Now, no longer drinking from the grail, Henry Jones Jr. and Sr. will age normally.
