Where did Henry Jones, Jr get the nickname "Indiana?"

What's going on here? I know the Indy Trilogy better than any other person on earth. I'm a real Indy fan unlike most of the nonsense posts I find in this forum. I've watched the Indy Trilogy a bunch of times, but they never explain why Dr. Jones has the nickname of Indiana. I'm guessing that Indy was born in Indiana or he had his first adventure there. Your thoughts are welcome.
