The type of archaeology that Indy was into I think is frowned upon by regular archaeologists as it deals with many spiritual issues which aren't very scientific.

Psuedo archaeologists like Hancock and Bauval are more in common with Indy (Atlantis etc) and these guys are also shot down (wrongly or rightly) by the establishment.

BTW on the back of Hancocks book - Heavens Mirror it says "Modern day Indiana Jones".
