The problem is that too many archaeologists take themselves way too seriously. They frown upon movies like the Indiana Jones series because they believe that archaeologists should not behave like Jones. Now I take archaeology very seriously, but I can distinguish between science and fiction. I also feel that most other people can do the same. Heck, Indiana Jones was on the cover of the last issue of _Discovering Archaeology_. This is the same issu that included the insert discrediting the major report of Monte Verde excavations. (I am glad someone finally did this, extraordinary claims require extraordinary proofs... and Meltzer just can cut it.)
