: : I was watching Last Crusade today and wondered about Indy's lighter that was used during the escape from Castle Brunwald. He said it was his lucky charm. Does anyone have information on this item? Was an attempt ever made in novels, comics, Young Indy Chronicles, etc. to explain why it was his lucky charm? I like Indy, but I haven't followed all the books, and I've missed a few episodes of Young Indy, too. If you recall seeing anything dealing with the lighter's significance, could you please tell me? Thanks.

: The lighter actually belonged to Elsa; the one they used in the Venice catacombs. He never saw it before then.

You're correct, it was Elsa's. I wonder why, then, Indy calls it "his"
lucky lighter when he and Henry Sr. are tied to the chairs. Could he
simply be referring to the fact it allowed them to find the second
"marker" leading to the grail? Perhaps a scene was cut from the film
which would show why it had become his lucky lighter and no longer
Elsa's. Any other speculation on the matter?
