For the guy stuck in the volcano room:

In the room where the lava is flowing into the hole, walk up to the big statue (which sits in the middle of the lava). You'll notice it has two arms, one of which is pointing upwards. Whip this arm, and it'll open a new door, to the right of where you should now be landing.

Go through that door, and explore. The key you found is used to unlock Sophia's jail, which is inside the new set of rooms :-)
