"The Mummy" is similar to the Indy flicks thematically as well as in smaller details. Both feature archeologists on treasure hunts. Both take place in the past. Both have swashbuckling adventurers as their leads, etc.
I think "The Mummy" purposely pays homage to Indy just like Indy set out to pay tribute to the serials of the thirties.
I liked "The Mummy" and if it had played things a little more seriously instead of being lighthearted, it could have been a great adventure flick instead of just a fun popcorn movie.
