: No, I am NOT an Indy heretic. My question is, what purpose could Indy IV serve, other than to satisfy us Indyfans? Last Crusade was, like it says on the back of the original packaging, "more than the culmination of Indy's exploits." One of the great things about the Indiana Jones movies is the growth we can see in Indy's character. Indy changes from the skeptical, worldly, cynical man he was to a "true believer." As Harrison Ford remarked in the new Temple interview: when playing a character again, it is important to expand the depth of that character. I sincerely doubt that a fourth Indy movie would cap off the series better than Last Crusade. So, in conclusion, even though I would love a fourth Indy movie, I doubt that it would be a worthy ending to the series, succesor to Raiders of the Lost Ark, and new chapter in the legend of Indiana Jones.

Hey. You know, I think you've made a good point. In Last Crusade, Indy tackled the most important issue of ancient Greek mythology: Reconciliation with his father. Anything else may end up satisfying only our insatiable desire for Indy IV. Besides, I could go to my grave knowing that Indy grew as much as a trilogy character could without losing his cultural importance. And according to scientists, I still have 54 good years left before I reach the average American male lifespan of 76 years. Just my two cents.
