: : Speaking of which, a company based here in the US is taking original no.4's and recreating the original jungle carbines of WWII in .303, as well as an Australian verison that came out in .308, and offering them on the market for prices from $189 to about $249. They are all made from original Lee Enfield no. 4 parts, but all have new stocks and are completely reconditioned. They therefore are not consider collectors weapons, but shooters. email me directly and I'll give you the web address so you can see what they look like. Makes one ponder.....to buy or not to buy...Regards. Michaelson
: A No.I Mk.III 303 with dark oily wood says "Indy" to me.

A friend of mine has one of those in .303- It's loud. Oh God, is it loud...I guess because of the shorter barrel, but it sounds like a cannon! A great deal on an M1 Garand (comparatively speaking to prices today, not to a few years ago)can be found by going through the Civilian Marksmanship Program. I picked up a really nice late war Springfield Armory M1 for $400 that way. If interested, contact your local rifle club about it or check out http://www.fulton-armory.com/CMP.htm or http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Rifles/Rifle_Applications.htm for more info.
