: : In the beginning of the Temple of Doom script they were actually going to make Indy smoke a cigarette! Oh, how glad I am that they changed that in the movie. It just would've ruined the way I see Indy now, that's all. I respect him too much, and for him to smoke would have been devastating to me.

: Hey. Really? You'd view Indy differently if he'd smoked? I don't think I would; the typical B-Movie adventurer he was based on dabbled in all the vices; smoking, drinking, fast women. Of course, Indy admitted hating fast women in Last Crusade.... But seriously, throughout that whole scene in the Club Obi Wan, I was dying for a cigarette. With Indy in his white tux and all, I'm surprised George Lucas was able to resist the temptation of having Indy light a cigarette. But that's just my two cents.

: PS Hey all you kids out there: Smoking is bad for your health. I'm serious! Aw, what's the use?

... it would have stunk (literally and figuratively) to see Indiana Jones smoking, and would have sent a bad message to kids watching him do it.

I'm glad that neither I nor anyone in my immediate family ever smoked (besides the health reasons, our house and clothes never reeked of cigarette-smoke). All those people (especially teenagers) who smoke thinking it's "cool", or that "hey, all my friends smoke" will be very sorry later on. As I have seen over the years with friends and close acquantainces, it's a very addicting habit that's hard to break, and can lead to some pretty severe consequences (in one case, I know of a person who needed 3/4 of her lungs operated out because she smoked constantly over many years)! :(

And for those who say, "hey, it's my lungs... I'm not hurting anyone else"... B.S.!!! Those around you have to inhale that second-hand smoke! Thank God that a few years ago laws were passed in California prohibiting smoking in all public buildings like restaurants, sporting arenas, theaters, etc. In other words, there are no more 'Smoking' and 'Non-Smoking' sections any longer... if you want to smoke, go outside (I guess that's one of the very few things that the politicians in California actually did right! :) )!

Sorry about the rant... I'll get off my soapbox now! :)
