Remember, it is the British Army who help save the day at the finale. They defeat the Thuggees (once again) with their rifle troops. It is pretty likely that they subsequently raid the temple and arrest remaining Thugs, and retrieve Indy's jacket for him.

It is also likely that the British troops escort Indy, Willie, Short Round and the children back to the village, since their elephants and quides ran away when they first arrived at the palace. The British are probably observing from the hills as the three heroes and the liberated children enter the village, and turn around once they see that they have arrived safely.

Hey, just a thought!

P.S. Also, in RAIDERS, we can assume that Katanga and the crew mailed Indy and Marion's stuff back to them in the U.S.
