In the Raiders of the Lost Ark script, in the part where he's teaching the Feds, the script goes to on tell what a fun and interesting teacher Indy must be. So, I think he's supposed to be pretty cool. Besides, if so many kids want his autograph, then he can't be that bad of a teacher. Hell, I'd love him as my archaeology teacher.
