Dark Horse Indy comics are closer in spirit to the movies for the most part than are the American books. Even so, I found them only so-so. The art was never that great and the writing tended to be a little slow, particularly on Indiana Jones and the Spear of Destiny.

Most folks have slammed Marvel's attempt at an Indy Jones comic series, but I think there are actually a few gems in there that are much better than anything Dark Horse ever did. You can probably pick these up in the 50 cent bin at your local comic shop. I suppose of the Dark Horse material, you may want to pick up Fate of Atlantis, Arms of Gold, and Shrine of the Sea Devil. Everything else I could take or leave - no big deal.

If you must have an Indiana Jones story to read, try Clive Cussler. He writes some fun Indy-like adventure novels.
