: on the indiana miller it says they are snap brims and i was wondering what that means, also what does flange mean. thanks. And thanks for the help on reshaping my fedora i almost have it how i want it now.

The snap brim on the fedora was real popular in days gone by. Basically it means that the brim is curled up slightly all the way around. When you pull down the front to get that fedora look, it stays that way, but can pop up like the scene from TLC when Indy and his father were exiting the car that crashed into the hole made by the explosion. He of course gave it that determined tug, and had it turned back down pronto. I think that the flange that you speak of is the device used to form a snap brim. The hat is steamed and molded around it. Kinda like blocking, but shaping the brim instead of the crown. Steve
