Screenwriter Jeffrey Boam, who penned INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE and a draft of the yet unmake INDIANA JONES IV film, died Wednesday of heart failure related to a rare lung disease. He was 53.

Boam was close friends with both George Lucas and Steven Speilberg. For LAST CRUSADE, Boam was brought in to revise the script, which had considerable problems in the development phase; he managed to iron out many of the problems and helped to give the film its light, breezy yet sharp dialog. As to INDY 4, as per Spielberg's office said "They all talk about wanting to do it, but neither George nor Steven has been able to focus on it." A Lucas spokesman stated "(They) would like to do it at some point."

Boam also wrote such films as LETHAL WEAPON 2 & 3, FUNNY FARM, INNERSPACE, THE LOST BOYS, and THE DEAD ZONE. He also directed an episode of HBO's TALES FROM THE CRYPT. He is survived by his wife and three children.
