In Reply to: Harrison Ford is a DRUG DEALER!!!! posted by Adam on January 28, 2000 at 20:26:15:

This is the article that I saw from Variety. Note that HF is playing
the US Drug Czar, not a "bad guy."

------------
Great BIG Harrison Ford news this morning.

Hitting the press today, is news that our favorite big screen actor, and
History's Most Successful Box Office draw, Harrison Ford, is in final
negotiations to star in the ensemble war-on-drugs drama "Traffik." The film, to
be directed by Steven Soderbergh ("Out of Sight," "Erin Brockovich," "The
Limey," "Sex, Lies, and Videotape"), tells the story of "every segment of the
drug trade -- from dealers and abusers to the law enforcement officers and
bureaucrats waging a futile war to thwart the drug trade."

"The script does with drug trafficking what ``Nashville'' did with country
music: Woven in are characters representing just about every segment of the
drug trade..."

"Mr. Ford is being courted for the biggest role in the ensemble, a judge who's
recruited to become U.S. drug czar at a time when the country escalates its
effort to curtail Mexican border traffic. The czar's hardline stance is sorely
tested when his own teenage daughter develops a serious addiction to crack
cocaine and heroin."

If everything is worked out properly, this film is set to go into Principal
Photography Production this spring, according to the Hollywood Trades. The
drama is set to open this fall 2000.

What does this mean to the future of the upcoming Jack Ryan sequel? If this
Soderbergh film does become a reality, I guess the rumors of a summer shoot for
"The Sum Of All Fears" will become a reality as well. And expect Harrison Ford
to return as CIA agent Jack Ryan in 'Fears' in the summer of 2001 instead of
the reported Fall/Holiday 2000 season.

But, regardless, those wanting two Harrison Ford films this year (like me!)
will cheer with joy that there will be an opportunity to see everyone's
favorite big screen actor, not once, but twice gracing the theaters this year.
First with "What Lies Beneath" in July, then something in the fall, either
"Traffik" or "The Sum of All Fears."

But if "Traffik" does get a go, looks like we'll have to wait another year for
Dr. Ryan to return. But, as long as there will still be "The Sum Of All Fears,"
I'll be a happy camper. And hey, there will be two films from Harrison Ford
this year. So there's something to really smile about.

Here are some articles about this film::::

'Traffik' jam: Ford, others eye lead in Soderbergh drug-war film

Harrison Ford is among several A-list actors circling to star opposite
Catherine Zeta-Jones in the $30 million independent production "Traffik" for
director Steven Soderbergh. The actress is negotiating to star in the
high-energy drama about America's war on drugs in Mexico, and Ford is
interested in the lead role. Shooting is expected to begin early this spring.
Ford, who just signed with UTA after years of being represented solely by Pat
McQueeny, would likely take the first pay cut of his career if he commits to
the project. But if a deal can't be made with Ford, other top actors are
waiting in the wings.

By Claude Brodesser and Michael Fleming

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - For a project not yet set up, the Steve
Soderbergh-directed ``Traffic'' is certainly trafficking in big-name talent.

Since Fox 2000 put the Steve Gaghan script in turnaround (i.e. on the
backburner), Catherine Zeta-Jones became aligned, and now word is that Harrison
Ford is in conversations about playing the lead role.

The script does with drug trafficking what ``Nashville'' did with country
music: Woven in are characters representing just about every segment of the
drug trade -- from dealers and abusers to the law enforcement officers and
bureaucrats waging a futile war to thwart the drug trade.

Ford is being courted for the biggest role in the ensemble, a judge who's
recruited to become U.S. drug czar at a time when the country escalates its
effort to curtail Mexican border traffic. The czar's hardline stance is sorely
tested when his own teenage daughter develops a serious addiction to crack
cocaine and heroin.

With the firming up of Zeta-Jones and Ford's attachment looming, insiders say
``Traffic'' producers Laura Bickford and Bedford Falls partners Ed Zwick and
Marshall Herskovitz are in conversation with Fox suits about picking up the
project once again, though other studios had been angling after it was placed
in turnaround.
