: I also enjoyed reading of the Crusades. Two things that may interest you:
: 1) Check out the olde English tales of the Grail (e.g., Parsifal's quest, etc. Penguin Books has a nice edition). Lotsa lore.

: 2) Same period as the Crusades, the Arab world was engaged in a lot of sea-going trade: African giraffes to China and Chinese porcelain to East Africa. Pretty neat stuff and certainly as interesting as those battles. Check out a medieval writer named Ibn Battuta and art historian/archaeologist named Peter Garlake for more info on this neat topic...

: Blow away your teacher with your erudition....

Whoa! A fellow scholar on the Indyfan forum! I love the works of Ibn Battuta. Just as good as Marco Polo's. I just wish a journal of a Muslim trader who toured Christian Europe could be found. Do you know of one, by chance? That would be a good read. A bit off subject, I know, but so few people I know have ever even heard of Ibn Battuta that I take any chance I can get to mention him. Just my two cents.

PS Perhaps Polo was a liar, but damn! if he wasn't one hell of a good one!
