: I just received Noel Howards gun belt with attached whip holder. From the pictures I have seen the whip holder seems too big. As I do not have a whip yet, I can not comfirm this. I have posted a pic of the belt/holder at:

: I would like to know what other peoples experience is. Also the holder is riveted to the belt. Would it be easy to take the rivets off trim the holder an re-rivet it to the belt? (Without causing damage to the belt?)
: The length of the holder is 14.4 cm as seem in pic. The inside measurment (where the whip would go) is about 9.7 cm.

: thanks

The whip carrier is an interesting problem. I own the M.B.A.
Temple/Crusade model and a 12-foot David Morgan bullwhip. The whip
fits in the holder with room to spare. When you walk around, the
coils loosen and the weight of the handle drags it to the ground-
UNLESS you do as seen in Raiders. There is a brief scene where
Marion tries to burn Indy's whip, mistaking it for "anything that
slithers" You will note that the whip's handle is resting in the
whip carrier, along with the whip's coils. This works marvelously,
as I have discovered. The handle, which weighs the most, rests in the
carrier with the knob (being larger than the diameter of the whip)
keeping it in place. For added support, you can run the (unsnapped)
whip carrier through the wrist loop of the bullwhip, which insures
that it doesn't slip out. I have even run this way and the whip
stays put, though the fall is everywhere. Raiders is a movie, and
filmed in takes. The Cairo market scene, with a lot of running and
fighting, was cut remarkably well. The whip seems to stay in place.
Personally, I attribute this to a shorter whip carrier, which grips
the whip more tightly. But the scene where Indy shoots the flying
wing cockpit to free Marion- the whip is everywhere but the carrier.
So Hollywood can't hide the realities of physics everytime!!!
Hope this info helps.

P.S.- For added proof, check out The Mask of Zorro; line swinging
scene near the end. You can just make out the whip's knob
dragging the lash to the ground (i.e. gravity) as Antonio
Banderas slides down that line to the ground.
