I've long read that while Lucas CONCEPTUALIZED the character, it was he and Philip Kaufman that really fleshed things out in terms of development. Also, I'd imagine Lawrence Kasdan, Spielberg and most definately Harrison Ford all contibuted to the Indy we see in the 3 movies.
