According to biographer Joachim C. Fest, the Ehrhardt Brigade "... brought back from its battles in the Baltic regions an emblem loudly proclaimed in the unit's marching song: 'With swastika on steel helmet'." This was used in demonstrations when the Erhard Brigade marched together with other "Free Corps" units in Bavaria. Hitler latter mecame involved with the Free Corps units, initallly as a spy for the government, and later as the leader of the DAP. A week after the meeting at the Hofbrauhaus in Munich, the DAP changed its name to the "...National Socialist German Workers Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutche Arbeiterpartei---NSDAP) and simultaneously adopted the battle symbol of its Austrian counterparts, the swastika."
