: Agencies and Production Companies are just looking for really good scripts. I wrote an action/comedy, but there are many different genres you could write (comedy, drama, horror, sci-fi, thriller, etc.) If you have a great story to tell, they'll be interested. But it's difficult to gain access to these people. You must go through the proper channels. Here's how I did it:

: 1) I FIRST learned the rules of screenwriting. This is a VERY IMPORTANT first step. My favorite book on screenwriting is a book by Linda Seger called "Making A Good Script Great." Another is "Screenplay" by Syd Field. These books taught me how to properly structure a script. This is what Hollywood is looking for. Good stories...properly structured.

: You can find the above books at "The Writer's Computer Store."

: 2) AFTER I studied these two books, I started reading scripts that had already been turned into movies. The following site has bunches of them. It's called "Drews Script-O-Rama."

: This site is AWESOME. You can download over 600 screenplays from your favorite movies for free. Read SEVERAL to get a feel for how the "great" scripts are written. Pretty soon, you'll start to understand the format and the medium. (Download the "Movie Scripts" ONLY...not the "Movie Transcripts" on the site. The "Movie Scripts" are written in proper FORMAT. This is very important).

: 3) I came up with my own unique story, and started writing. If you want to start writing, Bud-Arc, you might want to think about comedy. You seem to have a real knack for it. I've laughed out loud at several of your posts. If something else interests you more...go for it.

: By the way, when you start writing, you'll need to type your script in proper format. This is important. No one in Hollywood will read your material unless it is submitted in proper format (format is the margins, etc. for the dialogue and description on the page). Several programs do this for you. I use "Scriptware," but there are others. You can find script formatting programs at "The Writer's Computer Store" (website above).

: 4) After I finished my script, I registered it with "The Writer's Guild Of America"

: This will protect your script from being stolen and produced without your permission. It proves you are the author.

: (Check out the site. It's an AMAZING site. It gives interviews with today's hottest script writers, etc. A great resource. It will give you lots of tips.)

: 5) I entered my finished script in several screenplay contests...and started winning. This got the attention of many of the big players in Hollywood. They started flying me out to L.A. for meetings, etc. It's been pretty exciting. Right now, my script is being sought by the production company of one of today's hottest teen stars (can't reveal her name). Screenplay contests can be found at the following websites:

: In conclusion: If you follow the steps above, I'll probably be reading all about you in some big Hollywood magazine :). But MAKE SURE you LEARN YOUR CRAFT. Don't submit anything to contests until you're sure it's great. Have family and friends read it first. Rewrite if necessary. LEARN, LEARN, LEARN. Then enter the contests.

: Hope this helps.

SO profound. That's what I love about writers; in my experience, they are always willing to help. If I may add one more thing. I have written 12 screenplays and I wouldn't have completed ONE if it wasn't for "Movie Masters Screenwriting" software. Makes life SO much easier. I read at LEAST one screenplay a week, by writers I admire or films I hold dear. "Creative Screenwriting" magazine has become my "bible."

I love this business!
