:     I've read both books (written by Alistair Maclean) and watched both movies. The Guns of Navarone movie wasn't quite as good as the book, but at least it remained somewhat faithful to it.

:     On the other hand, the Force 10 From Navarone movie (which was made in 1978, a year after Star Wars was released) was nowhere near as good as the book... as a matter of fact, the movie doesn't resemble the book at all! As a matter of fact, I believe they pretty much rewrote the whole thing for the movie, making the American (Harrison Ford) forefront in the whole thing. Although the American assigned to the team in the book played an important role, he wasn't the most predominant character in the original story as he was in the movie. :(
