The Temple of Doom, why?

About Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom. I never really saw Temple as a true Indy movie, it was good, but couldn't compare to the other two because fighting had replaced the basic element of archeology. I own it of course, because I'm a loyal Indy fan but other people like Indy too, and when I ask them which is their favorite they always say Temple, when Raiders is the real classic. Why does the public like Temple so much more and why do true Indy fan's like it the least?
