I have heard about the missing X on this forum before, so when I bought the Last Crusade on video I looked for this. But the X is always there, from the moment they walk into that part of the library. It's just that, when viewed from shallow angles, it nearly blends with the surrounding floor tiles. That's why Indy walks around it a bit, trying to get a look from different angles, and finally mounts the stairs. He couldn't see it clearly from the ground level--it looks like a shadow from these angles. If you look very closely when they walk into the room, you can faintly see it. It is most clear after Indy breaks the tile, and is lifting the tile up--in these frames, the shot is wide enough so that you can see the entire X--again, it is as faint as a shadow.
