Matt, Congratulations on your new bullwhip. As for the color, the leather is just new. Whip tanned Kangaroo hide will darken with age, use, and exposure to sunlight.

Regarding the fall, the red hide is darker than the than the rest of the bullwhip. As Patterson mentioned, David Morgan initially used white hide for his falls, but later switched to red hide when he could no longer get a good quality white hide. Hope this helps
