: Hey did any of you people realise this? 1984 seemed to sort of be a
: year featuring funny Chinese kids in hit films. First, the most
: obvious to us, is good ol' Short Round in Indiana Jones and the
: Temple of Doom
, the 2nd is Long Duck Dong from Sixteen
: Candles
. Hmmm... interesting coincidence. Also, in the opening
: sequence of Gremlins, there is a Chinese kid who dresses a little bit
: like Short Round (with the baseball cap and all) but isn't acting
: funny and doesn't have the accent. Any thoughts on this? (Especially
: the people who were old enough to remember 1984 unlike some people who
: were about 2 when ToD opened in theatres :)

Ah, 1984. What a time to be alive. I swear that was the last time that any average American was capable of finding Ethiopia on a map. Anyhow, I remember all the Chinese actors you mentioned. Pretty creepy. I'd suggest that perhaps the Communists were trying to infiltrate Hollywood, but we all know Richard Nixon took care of that problem back in the '50s.

PS Anybody seen Short Round lately? I mean the actor, not our own local Shorty. What's he been up to, movie-wise?
